Advertise and promote your flatshare
Once you've registered your flatshare with us, you can start promoting your listing so potential flatmates can find your vacancy.
There are many ways that you can help your room to let advert be seen, and lots of tools we can provide you with, for free, to help you find a flatmate.
Online promotion:
- The power of social networking is a quick, easy and free way to promote your flat share.
Use Twitter, Facebook and Social Bookmarking to let your friends and followers know you're looking for a flatmate. One of them may be looking too or might know someone that is. If your friends share your posts to their friends you can quickly spread the word, and for free.
- Share your listing on social media sites
At the top of every page you've got the option to share with your friends. You can either pick from the most popular sites, or click the 'share' link to get a more comprehensive list.
The more places you share your flatshare or flatmate ad, the more chance you have of being seen and finding a flatmate.
- If using twitter, ask for a retweet and quickly spread the word for free.
- Add our twibbon to your twitter and Facebook avatars.
Even if your followers miss your tweet/facebook post they will know you're looking for a flatshare or flatmate.
You can add our twibbon here: http://twibbon.com/join/Flatseeker
- Advertise your room on other popular free classifieds - but be careful!
Keep your personal details to a minimum and link through to your advert on flatseeker.net so you can utilise our messaging services onsite to protect yourself from time wasters and scammers.
- Stick our virtual 'I'm looking for a flatshare ' stickers on your blog or website - pick a sticker and embed it where you can. You can get the code here
TIP: Pay attention to how you word your links or tweets - include the area you're looking in, whether it's a flatshare or houseshare - things that people would look for. Don't forget, it's not just about people being shown something is there, they need to be able to find it themselves if necessary.
An example of a tweet/post might be: "I'm looking for a room mate or flatshare in london EC1 or nearby area, max £350 p/w from 03/04/11. Anyone interested? http://t.co/aglrCVl"
Offline promotion:
It may be a bit outdated in this digital age, but arguably one of the best methods of promoting your rooms to let is postcards.
Local shop windows, cafes, bars, libraries and university notice boards are all great places to let people know about you're looking for a flatmate.
It can be risky however, as you are potentially posting your personal details for all and sundry to see, so remember to direct people to your flatseeker page address and utilise the messaging system on site to ensure your privacy and safety until you are sure about your potential flatmates.
If you choose to put a phone number or email address on your advert, you might want to consider using a pay as you go or skype line rather than your usual number and creating an email alias that can be easily removed from your main email account.
To make things easy we've put together some downloadable 'postcards' which you can use wherever you choose to advertise your flatshare. Just fill in the details and your page id, and you're done!
